I broke the front port windscreen on my Princess 286 the weekend before last and although the insurance company are (for the moment at least) being nice to me, it looks as if this could take 8-10 weeks to replace -losing most of the summer season.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a temporary repair (or could recommend someone who could do a cheap and cheerful temporary repair) so I don’t miss out on a planned trips in June & July. Boat is in Poole.

The only temporary way would be to use a piece of polycarbonate or perspex .

Are the screens flat or curved ?

Polycarboate(Lexan or similar)_ is much stronger , perspex is much weaker but more scratch resistant.

You will probably need to dismantle the screen and then make up a thick card pattern to be able to get the shape .

Unless you are particularily confident it may be better to get the agreement of the insurace company to cover a temporary repair as well and to get a polycarbonate supplier to fit the temporary screen as it sounds a bit of a bu***rto fit.

Where's Brendan when you need him? He is the self-styled King of Windscreen repairs. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well the screens are dead flat so that should make it easier. I have just been looking at some pictures of the boat and it looks as if the top rail of the windscreen assembly might be removable so I guess it could be a DIY temporary repair. I am hoping someone who has done something similar will be able to confirm this. Not sure where I can get a polycarboante supplier or fitter - any recommendation would be helpful

I may not be right. But as nearly all glass today has to be toughened. Can you not just go to your local glazing firm, get a piece of glass cut, then toughened. Should only take a day or two.

I once got a new window screen made for a big truck, in Turkey, that was flat. No trouble at all.
