I have a dilemma. I want advice on how putting a standing lug rig back in White Heather will affect her value - so that I can make an informed decision about the cost of doing so.

I dont follow boat prices and dont really read the magazines much so have no feel whether a 45 footer with her original dipping lug would be more or less desirable than the same boat with say a gaff ketch rig.

Any advice from any source would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

I doubt if it would make much difference. By that, I mean that the value of a larger old boat is incredibly difficult to state anyway. The "market" is minute!

I know what you feel like, though - the cost of a rig modification is huge - I'm thinking of a more modest one myself - putting the topmast back - and I know in my heart of hearts that its money down the drain. On the other hand, I will enjoy it, so I look on it as something to be "depreciated" over the next ten years of ownership. I "ought" to be saving up to replace the engine, instead... which would affect the value somewhat more ....but somehow that never happens and the 38 year old MD2 soldiers on...

hi mike, your question is like how long is a piece of string!!
having watched over the last few years how much you have put in to white heather im surprised money comes into it. we do what we do for the love of it, "it is more than the recreation of a period boat....... it is reincarnation".
by the way Our daddy is curntly listed for 120000sterling!! i know different class etc but... also the new luke powles boats seem to be changing hands for in excess on 250k !!
take care
