Advice on EPIRBs wanted

I am thinking of buying an 406 EPIRB. I have a 121 Mhz but I gather that no one listens to that frequency. There are ones around £500 and GPS ones for around £800. Is it worth paying the extra £300 and what extra facilities do I get, and do I really need them? Advice please.

Have a look at http://www.sarsat.noaa.gov and click on "!!Attention!!" on the left hand menu to see comments ref the ending of the 121.5 MHz service. Also see http://www.sarsat.noaa.gov/406-121.html for a comparison of the two frequencies - all in plain speak!Location accuracy with the 406 frequency without GPS is given as 2 miles but with GPS it's 100 metres (or better now I guess).

I hope this helps and that you never need to use either of them.
