For various reasons I am in the need of a cradle...... preferrably cheap... :o)

Boat on hard stand this winter and need a storage stand .... unfortiunately I need more than just stands.... I need to be capable of transporting the boat in the cradle as well.... not far at first, as it is for work to be done this winter in marina ... the spring may look more exiting...

Have looked at Jacobs Cradles as well as others ..up to a 20T of this one, but configured fora MOBO ....

Any guidance would be appreciated...., but for the use, I do not need galvanised stuff, nor am I worried about weight, just strenght...

Alf.... When you say transporting the boat in the cradle, I'm assuming truck or ship's deck transport and further storage ability after arrival at destination?

Are you requiring the cradle to have only bilge and keel support, or adjustable vertical uprights, external of the gunwhale as well?

How is the UK steel prices at the moment?

Maybe get something made up, blasted and painted.

Anybody want to go halves?

Have done this few times in the past as I spend a lot time working on others peoples boats.

Go to your local steel scrap yard, you will find plenty of heavy steel sections, its just a matter of taking a rough plan of what you need and cut the lengths you require.

If you do not have the time or expertise to do the cutting and welding the yard will make the cuts and you can hire a welder to the job.

I can weld but it's a bit like seagull droppings, so I just tack it together and get a welder in to finish it.

Hope this helps.

Avagoodweekend......
