Thought I would start a new thread as my question is simple, or is it?, My existing sailing boat has a Webasto that is fed from the tank by a very small plastic pipe, which is fine for a seagoing yacht. However I am selling that and intend to buy a motor boat for the Thames, is that arrangement ok for the BSS, I look forward to the opportunity of the learned experts with interest.

Hi, no it's not, I had to change mine to get it through the BSS. There is an approved BSS kit for diesel heaters, with copper pipe, clamps, brass fittings etc. And it's not cheap, I think I was stung for around £100. Mind you, that was Lindon Lewis.

Can be rubber also as long as marked with appropriate standards. EN something or the other.

It must be marked ISO 7840

This is one option or metal pipe as detailed on pages 14 & 15. The checks are 2.10.1R (metal pipes) or 2.10.2R(hoses) https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/media/268789/ecp-private-boats-ed3_rev2_apr2015_public_final.pdf The underlying concept is to give 2.5 minutes before the fuel line fails in a fire and feeds the flames even further. This gives the crew more time to escape and the fire service a little more time to arrive before the fire grows. It may mean the difference between lucky escape or something worse.
