Johnboy,

Not much info to go on....

The dealer may well be describing the boat accurately, and indeed it may be faultless.... but don't buy without a survey.

You never can tell if the boat has suffered hull damage in the past or what other problems may exist..

Good luck

Some suggestions:
Would certainly suggest a survey - hull, structure, osmosis, etc.
Also make sure survey includes engine and operation of same.
Conduct a Sea trial.
Review service history - ensure done annually for engine and drive, regular oil changes 1 or 2 per annum.
Go thru any equipment operation to ensure all works.
Get plate number from boat and check for any listed problems with boat builder.
Your insurer may also have some knowledge or a database they could check to see if ever involved in a claim.

Are you buying it from Kingston Marine? Where are you operating from in Dublin?

Agreed. I wouldn't bother with a survey for an Arvor 20. It's a simple boat. Surveyor isn't gonna see anything you can't see yourself within about 20mins. There wont be osmosis

I think that the leisure boaters that buy Arvors tend to be relative newcomers who want a cheap wheelhouse type of boat. After a year or so they tend to want something a bit more upmarket and or flash. Hence one often sees them up for sale. They are very basic boats but none the worse for that.

Agreed, there's not much to survey. I'd have a good look round everywhere checking for leaks of both sea and rain water, check that the electrics work, have a sea trial, check the engine service history/or take a mechanically minded mate with you on the trial.
