I've been on the cruise reports and didn't spot any relevant posts, so please shout if I've missed something....but I'm looking to do my first trip leaving Mallorca Puerto Portals to Ibiza Sta Eulalia (booked into the marina for a week) any advice / tips on the crossing (in a Fairline Targa 44GT). also planning a few day trips to the likes of Formentera and up along the northern coast line....
Any info would be gratefully received.....thank you in advance

Just check the weather.

The shortest distance is from Andraxt.

Depending on how fast you go it is between 3 and 4 hours and you have cell phone coverage for the first and last third.

There will likely be a lot of boat traffic given the time of year.

The only real issue with ibiza is the cost of the marinas and the lack of them if the weather turns - but you have a booking for a week.

There is a hotel on the far side of Sta Eulalia that let you ( officially or not I have no idea) use their pool. it is at the end of the quay on the " wrong "side of the Marina closest to the sea.

Mallorca has few if any reefs to hit other than one in the middle of Santa Ponca. Ibiza has quite a few jutting from headlands so do check your chart as Mallorca is very forgiving.

Formentera some people love. Its a nice place but a tourist Mecca and the ferries run all hours making it rocky if not stabilised.

If you hire a car the island is small and you can do it in a day. Sunset Ahsram is nice but it is the opposite end of the island to where you are going. If the water is nice break you booking into two chunks and go round the island for a few days and anchor overnight. Shame not to if you have used the fuel to get there.

Sant Eulalia is about the nicest marina in Ibiza - IMO

If you are thinking of staying on anchor in Formentera, here's a nice place - if the wind/swell isn't from the East or North East

Santa Eulalia marina is excellent and gives you easy access to the North East coast where there are lots of interesting Calas - Cala Xarracca, Cala Xucla, Benirras, Puerto San Miguel etc
On Formentera try Cala Saona, it will be fairly busy but it’s beautiful and very safe for overnight stays.

thank you, really good info, much appreciated

we're off to majorca next week, was toying with heading over to ibiza for a couple of days , but it would be more like a camping trip in our axopar 28 compared to your targa 44! Will probably just head to cabrera instead though.

My favourite anchorage was Binniras but I heard that due to the weed one can’t anchor there anymore. Shame because it has a great vibe so as to speak. Avoid Formentera in my view unless you go to where Hurricane suggested or the other side. Too many tourists and even on a flat calm day it can feel like a F 7

Sadly the trip had to be cancelled. It would appear I have a blown head gasket. Lost the cost of the marina which was booked for the week, but gained the savings on fuel....but whilst the engines were running fine I had had some loss of the pressurised coolant system, which seemed to blow out coolant through the header tank....the cylinders were pressure tested and number six was low....so the VP specialist out here concluded the head gasket had failed. Have to take his advice. better safe than sorry, and it could have been worse I guess....I've been told its pretty rare for this to happen on these VP d600 engines. Anyway thats the update

sorry to hear this Nick, I hope you mange to get it fixed up quick.
thank you....Yes its all been fixed and sea trialed today...all is well...excellent job in record time from Tom and Total Marine.....stripped the engine tuesday, new head ordered, back running thursday...alas too late for my trip to Ibiza....the marina kept my money and no doubt sold the space I booked months ago...lucky them..

unfortunately you wont find many companies out there showing empathy or any benefit of doubt, but you did really well to get Tom to get you up and running for the remainder of the season!

Glad the sea trials went well, have fun!!
