Advice from Cornwall please

As no holiday this year I'm advised that a (landbased) weekend away before Christmas might be in order! :eek: Walks by the sea, nice pub or two and erm.. it would be nice if I could see a boat or two in the vicinity!
Helford or Fal come to mind but it's been a long time since I was in Cornwall. Any recommendations for a nice location & B&B?

Just a normal B&B, but nice view, very pleasant.


There is good choice of food in Fowey.
 
I'd go for Truro, staying at Mannings, then you have access to both the N & S coast, some great restaurants, and a beautiful pocket sized city to mooch around.

I second that. We have stayed there many times.

My other favourite is just up the road from there.

Best, views of the Fal, very nice rooms, excellent breakfast etc.....

I must have spent 50 nights there when our boat was being built.
 
www.quay-house.co.uk is at the top of Mylor Creek with a creekside walk to Mylor Yacht harbour where you have a couple of places to eat or enjoy a pint at the excellent (I'm biaised) MYC. Walking distance the other way to Pandora Inn on Restronguet Creek too.

Edit: For a local pub with food, the Lemon Arms is only a 2 min walk at most.

I have just come back from a week on the Lizard. Apart from a surplus of rain at times it was looking very beautiful. As we were staying with family I can't make suggestions for B&B but I'm sure the other advice is good.

For R&R, the coastal path takes some beating at this or any time of year. For shelter we looked into some galleries. St Ive's Tate didn't excite us but we enjoyed Penlee House in Penzance. The Eden Project could be worth a visit too but you may need to check what is still open.

Got to say I really like Falmouth. Bit like Salcombe must have been before it went yuppie.

Lots going on in Falmouth due to the 12000 or so students at Tremough, but still retains the old seaport vibe (for real excitement there's always Trago, and the prizewinning pub by the back door). Ferry trips to Flushing and St Mawes, Maritime museum, castles both sides, and north Helford a short drive away.

We stayed in The King of Prussia on the waterfront in Fowey a couple of times, busy pub, good walks from Bodinnick to Polruan via two ferries, reasonable eating nearby.
 
Cornwall

Newlyn takes some beating, real fishing port, more pubs than you would ever go to. Walk into Mousehole and see the Xmas lights.

suspect he must have been on his knees to get through the door! His missus then probably took this as a proposal and Nick was too scared to back out ;-)
 
We used to spend the week before Christmas in St Mawes. A bit less far to drive than Falmouth and you can take the ferry there for a very pleasant day trip. Loads of boats to look at and pubs/food.

I am sure there are B'n'Bs but give the Idle Rocks a ring:

They used to do very inexpensive rooms (or maybe a cottage/flat for the weekend) in that dead period, just to get people in.
