Advice For Trip To Oostende (prevously posted on Scuttlebutt)

Re: Advice For Trip To Oostende (previously posted on Scuttlebutt)

RYCO is by far the quietest berth, but be aware that (i) its a long way out of town (ii) you can get on the tram just outside the marina to town (iii) you must be prepared to wait for the Ramsgate ferry to berth or leave. (iv)Take your passport if you're of a certain age & get discount train fare to Bruges.(v) dont expect to get a drink in the bar.
Enjoy!

Recently the Bbr changed 'management' more often than I change underwear /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The roadworks (tramline) make the place very hard to get to.
Shame really, as the place oozed 'old world' charm.
Belgium's oldest YC (1835 IIRC)

"RYCO is by far the quietest berth"
Last time I was there we were berthed close to a RoRo which started unloading with iron wheeled forklifts at 3am, and the chain dredger had been working until 2am.
NOT quiet.

The dedger had stirred up the silt, so a bit smelly too. Was I just unlucky with my timing?

Better than the continual swell & graunch in NSYC or the wait for the locks through to Mercator.

Of course these are all reasons for NOT going to Ostende in the first place.
