Boat being lifted next week to carry out usual maintenance along with spruce up, then we have between 6 and 8 weeks on board , hoping to get better weather than last couple of years hence taking extended break so can be more flexible with planning designation s, we normally head west from Isle of Wight then across to the channel isles ,this year hoping to also visit St. Malo, and maybe St Quay-Portrieux ,Appreciate any advice and recommendations , places to visit marines to visit and ones to not, boat is 16+m ,we enjoy going off in our rib and exploring , hence St Malo and the river Rance, we are also hoping to spend more time on buoys and at anchor something that we have little experience of apart from the odd day,
Passage plan (depending on weather)
Weymouth
Torquay
Dartmouth
Salcombe
Alderney
St. Peter port
St Malo
St Helier
Pool
We have visited all except St Malo several times always staying in marines or on buoys so appreciate any advice re sheltered areas to anchor or pick up a buoy .

Thanks to all and any reply,s

We are based in Brixham and went across last summer for 2 weeks. We really enjoyed St Peter Port
, St Quay Portreux, Binic, St Cast and St Malo. Favourite of all was St Cast - kids loved the big sandy beach, restaurants were great and we had stunning weather. Let me know if you want specific info.

I assume you cruise at about 20 Knots? all adults or do you have kids to entertain.

Unless there is a specific reason for it I don't follow your Weymouth-Dartmouth to Salcombe bit that has got to be 65 to 70 miles for starters.

If you want to go Weymouth to Brittany I would have thought Weymouth to Guernsey 81nm about and possibly stop off in Alderney ( Weymouth to Alderney63nm) if it takes your Fancy stop in Alderney its on your way, the to Guernsey to Fuel up by road Tanker St Sampsons currently about 45ppl.

Carteret Is lovely about 34nm due east or Granville about 55nm. St Malo is 56nm but a faff to lock in to and only over high Water.

An easy land fall in Brittany are non tidally restricted ports St Cast, St Quay Portieux and much further away Roscoff.

St Cast is a gem and a favourite of mine, from there west St Quay-Portrieux, Dahouet, and Paimpol.

Probably back through Guernsey to fuel up on the way back.

The Swan pontoons in St Peter Port are any tide access and are now walk ashore.

Look at the Digimap marinas page for some good info on marinas see http://www.digimap.gg/marine/marinas/

Alderney is ok for a pit stop but I would head for SPP. You should aim to keep east of the TSS and head for outer Casquests and then into SPP.That way you arent really tide dependent at all re Alderney etc. That is from Solent of course..Actually I might be doing your route in a week or so but we nay first go to Falmouth
Of course you are now into big tides and so a split between tidal access and full access marinas. Often the tidal ones are more fun but St Cast is very good indeed and then also busy especially with day boaters from StMalo so make sure you get a berth befire they all arrive.
The sea is generally calmrr in the shelter of St Malo bay and the coast and sea a bit more challenging as you go west.Trebeurden I like alot..like St Cast it has a good beach if you need that though provisions is a bit if a hike.
I m away at moment but I have some notes on that whole area I will dig out

Yes just swmbo and myself, heading west 1st is an option if weather bad for crossing to channel isles , chance,s

are we shall head for Alderney first ,as we have not visited there due to bad weather each time we have passed,

Then on to SPP then Brittany, On reading up on St Cast there is a Max boat length of 15m , as we are over 16m

have not considered stopping there , we shall definatly stop at St quay portrieux, thanks for the link to Digimap proving

very useful , by the way we have called into your place in St Sampson a couple of times, boat was lifted there approx four

years ago and on other a cations called in for spares,

My boat is 48 ft and no issues in St Cast, I have certainly seen 55 to 60ft boats there. Pitch up early about lunchtime and you should be ok.

You our will be fine in St Quay Portrieux.

I tend to call ahead on the day, if I am concerned about space to give my boat name, length, eta and to warn them I am arriving. You can't book a berth ahead but it helps them to plan.

Give us a call if you pass through Guernsey and use the digimap website.

Carteret east of Guernsey 35 nm in Normandy is also a great spot.

Give me a call if you want to discuss any ports.
