Advice about launching

I am building up to getting my jaguar 24 lifted into the water by crane. She is currently on her trailer. I was going to tow her to the quay side completely kitted up - everything where it should be. - also including the stanchions and guard rails fitted - is this right? Thanks

Depends..... may have to feed the slings under the guard rails but presumably they can easily be disconnected at one end ... they then cause no problems.

Watch out that the slings are clear of the stanchions.

Lifting with the mast up ? No problem with a little care, using a proper crane but you can see the potential for problems.

Do you mean with mast up?
If so I assume you are talking a tow of metres, are you sure there is no height impediment?

I tow my boat with guard rails stanchions etc.in place from home to car park of launch site, get mast up then tow to slipway (not on road) via route kept clear of overhanging branches etc. I would talk to other people at your site as to what to rig before you launch.

With long slings (as above) the angle between them is so small that the forces on the hull are small enough for any seaworthy boat not to need spreader bars. They are needed when lifting with a low jib like a Hiab
( then the slings dont grip the boat and if its mobo with no keel it slides out and crashes to the ground.

If (as I hope) you are using a professional crane operator then leave it to him. An experienced person who does it for a living will know what to do.

I can't help but feel a bit amazed that you do not have a ramp and the ability to launch it off the trailer. I am not sure of the Jag 24 as to whether it has lift keel or fin keel. Even with fin keel I would be just letting the trailer into the water until the boat floats off.
I really like the idea of being in control of the whole job as and when I want it.
I have never found the maintenance of trailer a problem. After all you probably keep the trailer out in the weather all year round so rust and water is still going to be a problem even if you don't dunk it. My trailer has been dunked around 80 times over 34 years. (in salt water) . Yes it has needed maintenance and rebuild but I think it would be nearly as bad just left in the weather.
Anyway good luck with the launch and you might like to think about DIY and sava da money. olewill
