Adverc, Sterling or Merlin, what do you think?

At one of the London boat shows I asked a man on a battery stand what he would recomend, no witnesses, no recording, no comeback. Without a hesitation he said Adverc. We fitted an Adverc to our boat as soon as we bought her, and the five batteries are all AGM. The Adverc has caused no trouble and in fact has partly restored a "damaged" battery.

The other question you asked was about battery monitors. We have fitted a Mastervolt BTM 1. It only gives me battery volts on the engine cranking battery, but it tells me every thing about the services (domestic) battery bank. Voltage, current in or out, amperehours used, and a whole host of secondary information such as number of cycles.

You will probably have a means of measuring how much fuel is in your tank, and one for the water tank. this meter tells you how much energy you have left in your energy tank (battery bank). IMHO it is just as important and should be original equipment on all boats. I am very pleased that we fitted one (just in case it wasn't obvious from the above). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have recently rewired the whole boat, complete with new Balmar alternator / smart charger / Victron inverter/charger / prewired control panels, all supplied by Merlin. All excellent equipment and outstanding service. Telephone advice available at the drop-of-a-hat and emailed instructions on demand. As an electrical novice the service could not be better - and all given at arms-length as I am in Cyprus.
