I have just watched a very short trailer of a film called Adrift. Here is the official resume:

A weekend cruise on a luxurious party yacht goes horribly wrong for a group of old high-school friends. They forget to let the ladder down before they jump into the ocean for a swim. The boat proves impossible to climb. They are stuck in the water many miles from shore, with baby Sara left alone on board. Sara's mother Amy must contend with her aqua-phobia as well as the group's increasing desperation, as the friends begin to turn on each other. Soon the exhaustion of keeping afloat and the struggle to get back on board begin to take a terrible toll. The happy reunion turns into a fight for survival.

Of course, it had to be a "luxurious" yacht, didn't it? Female star is called Pratt!

Anybody seen the film? And has anybody found themsleves in a similar situation?

Happy New Year!

For a moment there, I thought this was going to be about the book "Adrift" by Steven Callahan....... 76 days adrift in a life-raft after being sunk by a whale west of the Canary Isles.

Ah well. I'll go back to sleep! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now THERE'S a cheery note to bring in the New Year with. Just spent 5 mins considering the options. At least, on our boat we could try climbing up the Monitor, but at 68..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There was a story about a couple where the husband fell overboard on his watch. The wife, when she woke, sorted out a backtracking, and against the odds, found him. She then couldn't get him in, and finally, I think they both ended up going under together... what a way to go.

Don't fall asleep! Instead, read 110 Days Adrift by Maurice and Maralyn Bailey whose yacht was capsized by a whale and they then spent that time adrift in a liferaft before being rescued by a fishing vessel.

About fifteen years ago I was taking Adriana from South Florida up the US east coast to Chesapeake Bay. We, myself and two crew, were completely becalmed in the Gulf Stream; it was hot and humid and we decided to cool off with a dip. I jumped in and after a little while I had drifted quite far from the boat. Looking back towards the boat I saw to my horror that we were all in the water and there was no-one on board! I still feel uncomfortable today when I think what might have happened had a little breeze sprung up.

Only a couple of years ago, a yacht motoring between 2 Carribean islands 30 miles apart, found midway 2 people in the water, both naked and very sunburned but alive. They were only spotted because the water was calm, very unusual in the Carribean. It turned out that they were chartering a boat. The wind had died to nothing, so with the sails still up, they, the only two on board, decided upon the swim.............
The yacht eventually fetched up on some sandy beach some distance away with little or no damage. That was one lucky couple.
