Adlard Coles famous yacht for sale in Galicia

In my copy of Heavy Weather Sailing by Adlard Coles and Peter Bruce, Cohoe IV is a Nicholson 36, An early GRP build.

Yes, Cahoe IV in Heavy weather sailing is listed as 'an early GRP Nic 36'.

But I think that caption is wrong. Every other reference, including the Classic Boat article on her preservation, has her as wood.

The photos match whereas the pictures of the earlier Cahoes are all very different.

I wonder if she was the hull plug for the GRP mould?

This one Ithink is the one that an additional extension tothe bow was made so the yacht would be elegable forthe transatlantic race.It was then removed. The 1950 race

The boat is a development of the Tumlare design. Coles' previous boats were also Tumlares which were a bit smaller. he switched to the Nicholson designs as they were flavour of the month for offshore racing at the time.

Looking at the painting by Montague Dawsonthe yacht for sale won theTransatlantic race in1950.It must have been another double ended that had a false bow to lengthen it to qualify for the Bermuda Race in 1963.TheNicholson came later and was a yawl or ketch
