Adhesive silver tape. How do I get it off the hull?

A previous owner of my Corribee ran tape along the line of the rubbing strake (had there ever been one - and with apologies for being unfamiliar with the correct terminology). However, the tape was not cut to a suitable narrow width, and has become welded to the paintwork.

My efforts thus far have been both mechanical and chemical - and all counter productive.

Anyone got any ideas?

warm the tape with a hair dryer before peeling off, then as vonasi says use wd40 to remove residue

Then if you can still see where the tape has been you'll need to get out the wet and dry paper, then polishing compound and then polish. Then you'll find that it looks better than the rest of the hull and have to do the whole thing. The simplest jobs sometimes take the longest!
