I currently have insulation that consists of 25mm thick foam sheets around the fridge "box". The fridge is part of the inner moulding so foam is the only way practical way to increase it's insulation levels. I've cut a small unobtrusive hole in the moulding to see what I have got, hence I can see the 25mm sheet. Moulding at cutout is 6mm thick, I'm hoping that is typical of the rest of the moulding.

My concern is that the foam expands considerably and I do not want it to blow out the walls of the moulding. Ideally I would drill a series of small holes around the "box" and like cavity wall insulation, just wait for the foam to expand out of these, however, for cosmetic reasons I do not want to do this.

I'm hoping that a formite has done this successfully without ending up with an unsightly colander and they can pass any lessons learned.

Yes I did exactly what you are proposing using builders foam. I DID make the mistake of deciding to put just "one more" squirt into each hole and then had to listen wincing at each "Crack" as the liner started parting from the existing insulaton. Didnt nacker the liner though. Difficult to say if it improved the effectiveness of the insulation.
