Adding non permanent letters to inflatable?

Does anyone have a way of adding letters to the tubes of an inflatable that does not cause permament marking. Even stick on letters will show lighter areas of weathering when removed. I want to comply with EA regs but it seems to me that marking the transom of a 2.4m boat should be sufficient.

I was about to suggest artists acrylic paint, which can be used to paint on the back of leather jackets (a la Ogri) if you don't want it to last for more than a year, but you'd still get the weathering problem. What about sticking the letters onto an opaque piece of sticky-back plastic, which would leave an anonymous rectangle or oval on the tubes?

To operate a boat in an Environment Agency controlled waterway (eg non tidal Thames) you have to pay the EA for a licence.

The boat must have a clearly identified name - instructions include location of name (port and strbrd bows, and transom) size, style and colouring of letters used for name.

That's just for starters..
