Evening all

I recently bought a Merry Fisher 645 which has just the basic electrics installed.

I would like to add just a couple of 13A mains socket outlets in the cabin, fed from the shore power.

While doing this is it considered a sensible thing to also fit a battery charger and small circuit breaker board. In fact a unit that would enable me to use the existing lighting etc without fear of running the battery down.

My other question is whether it would be considered safe to install such units in the cockpit locker which also houses the petrol tank ?

As ever, any suggestions or comments will be most appreciated

Many thanks in advance

You should use an ELCB and a circuit breaker board on installation. You might look at the Boat Safety Scheme for the right specs.
Certainly a good idea to fit a smart charger, that can charge both domestic and engine batteries separately. Again, check the BSC about installation. With respect to the fuel tank locker, this will depend on venting. You must not mix electrics with petrol vapour.

Mounting of the consumer unit with RCD & MCBs certainly should not be in the locker with the petrol tank, anything electrical in there should be to ISO 8846 or designed according to IEC 60079-0, no consumer unit I know of complies.
