AD41B Thrust bearings

Just in the process of rebuilding an AB41B 1990 engine (installed in a Targa 33) and have hit a problem with the thrust bearing. The crank had to be ground resulting in +0.5 mm main bearings diametre (incl thrust). Thrust bearing supplied 876521 has thicker thrust bearing sides than the original 876523. The full volvo engine repair kit contains 2 thrust bearings, 876523 and 876519, both standard crank diametre and therefore no use) which I assume is to suit the specs of 2 engine versions. I have been back to the supplier but they are only able to provide the +0.5mm thrust bearings with the thicker thrust bearing sides. Sending the crank back for further machining would not be a problem but to fit the bearing 976521 the block and end cap would also have to be machined as the inner width of the new thrust bearing is 30.4mm and the block and end cap are 31mm wide.
Anybody come across this before?

The rebuild kit does come with std sized bearings included but the price for the kits as opposed to the individual parts still makes it worth while (or used to) at one time vp gave some credit for unused bearings if u/s were ordered at same time as the kit.
There should be a parts bulletin regarding the thrust bearing which had a design change

Thanks for the response, I already have the VP repair kit with standard thrust bearings. I have since bought +0.5mm mains following crank grind which fit, its the thrust bearings that wont fit the crank and block due to the thickness of white metal and thrust bearing surface.

Obviously the wrong bearing but the supplier says only one option on the oversize bearings unlike the standards which have two?

Do you have any more info?

I don't think there are many of us keen hands-on maintentance folk will have had that sort of experience for the help you are seeking. Perhaps Volvopaul or Spannerman may be able to shed some light for you.
You could also try Coastal Rides, they have some experience with engine re-builds. They may even be able to offer an exchange engine.

agree on the first part of your post (though myself and guess others have had similar rebuilt experiences in automotive/bike engines) but I guess on the second part there's not much point if the OP has already gone in the fuss of grinding the crank, I also guess replaced liners and rings etc and is about to refit everything!

I do remember failing to fit a thrust properly and jamming the crank (OK it was a 1.3lt mazda 323 engine I was learning at the time...) but I'd guess a good machine shop might be able to get you the right dims on one out of all the bearings you have gathered... Haven't seen it so could be completely wrong

Sorry I don't have the info now but I do recall the service bulletins but not the exact contents they are from some time ago and were one of the major changes between either 40-41 or 41a-41b
You should check with a good VP dealer

Thanks to all for the response.
Just found out today from Volvo via Keypart that the thrust bearing I require is 876525 which, is +0.5 on the journal but with the thrust bearing dimensions for the earlier engine. Bad news is Volvo no longer produce these and there doesnt seem to be any in the UK.

Your answer via key part from Volvo

Key part are alternative suppliers not part of he Volvo chain but they set out to supply at lower cost cutting out and in competition to them.

If you contact a VP dealer they should have access to list of dealers stock which may help you find the brg required.
