I had a gearbox problem with a. HA1s 2.62 gearbox on. Volvo AD41p engine.
An engineer is trying to rebuild the box, but seems to be having trouble in reassembly.
There doesn't seem to be any replacement gearboxes or recon units around.
Does anyone know of a suitable alternative box which may be compatible?

Gold Dust.
Dimensions are the same as the earlier MS reverse gears including the down angle for the output shaft.
Fairly certain fitting any non VP gearbox involves moving the engine backwards ? and/or altering the angle of the engine to get your "new" gearbox to line up with your existing propshaft.
Also the problem of any aftermarket gearbox not having the same reduction ratio and needing the prop to be repitched to compensate.

Thanks OG
Does this mean an earlier MS could be fitted and do the job ?
Can only comment regards very limited personal experience.
You would need to triple check from somebody who really knows what they are talking about.

Need to locate a used MS range gearbox capable of handling the power output of the 41P, 200HP ?, this might limit search to MS4 or MS5 .
Not sure if MS3 could handle the power but vague memories they might have been installed in boats with 165 HP engines ??????

Good working order MS4 are rarer than a complete beak full of hens teeth.
Would need to consider what you need to do to convert from hydraulic to crash/clonk reverse gear.
Without being too critical in my experience there are marine gearbox engineers and marine gearbox engineers.
Stick with repair even if it means changing mender. ?
I would be trying to contact VolvoPaul for some free advice about what to do now.

Sometimes its who you know ?
Needed a repair to a cast iron exhaust turbine chamber on one of my Yanmars, new, was eyewatering , interweb and other enquiries only resulted in doom laden warnings and long complicated reasons as to why not.
Simply out of desperation popped round to a local company that probably fixed Nelsons propellors on the Victory , had they been invented then.
Walked out 10 mins later being told after quick glance ,"Can do it in day or two cos bit busy at the mo" :)

Thanks very much for your input OG - much appreciated.
I have decided to source another, perhaps more experienced, engineer, and just hang in there and hope for a relatively speedy outcome.
