I was out on Friday and boat (Sealine 285 with 2 x AD31a 130hp) wouldn't plane. Port engine not revving beyond about 2,400rpm under load. Removed air filter on port and found I couldn't turn the turbo more than perhaps 30 degrees. Using a socket on the end, I gradually managed to get it free by gently turning back and forth. After that, no problems and we travelled about 80nm including stopping for an hour or so. I suspect there might have been some obstruction on the exhaust side. Anyone had this experience and any thoughts/advice generally?

Your problem will be on the hot side most likely corrosion due to poor exhaust design.

Thanks guys. I had thought perhaps taking off the exhaust elbow and having clean out might be a plan. As I recall, it's not the most pleasant of jobs but worth a try do you think?

No choice I am afraid, likely cobs of rust on the turbine outlet, I have discussed before if blades not damaged possible to machine outlet nozzle and fit a stainless steel sleeve. However whatever the solution exhaust requires investigation and correction or will simply occur again.

Yep. I've ordered bellows as I may as well change them at the same time. I'll take some pictures if I remember. In fact, it might be the only way to see in the hot side of the turbo anyway....

As suspected, corrosion on the exhaust side. Also turns out the bellows I ordered are the wrong ones plus the "V" clip has rotted so I'll need to order both on Monday. Not missing much action though, weather is very poor up here!
