sorry YBW - I did not want to do it

I stuck with earning you a few micropence from each visit for as long as I could

but everyone has their limits

the coffee adverts were a bit annoying but then they have been followed by adverts for people so rich that they can afford to fly in a bed on emirates airlines was just too much screen space and bandwidth

YBW will have to try to come up with a new plan for getting revenue from these forums

None of the ads is visible with iPad, but the screen width assumes them to be visible. Some threads seem to have them but others don't, so the width of the forum jumps about, usually just as I am pressing 'see latest post', with the result that I either get 'rate this thread' or the previous page. I see that I, and a couple of others, have double posted since the ads were introduced, which was previously not possible unless you were particularly insistent.

Viewing on an iPad mini, the ads take up a massive third of the screen which is bad enough but the squashed up forum area as vyv says jumps about depending on whether there is an ad on that particular page. Also the dates of the posts are truncated so not visible. Other forums that I use only have banner ads at the top of the page which does not intrude on the reading of posts. Shame that IPC appear not to know what they are doing and spoiling a great forum.

Depends on the browser and its' settings. Safari on my iPad doesn't block the ads. The Mercury browser does block them but leaves the empty space, rather defeating the object. The AdBlocker for iOS browser blocks them and reclaims the space, thus giving the full screen back. There's a free version which I have used since Friday, and I've just upgraded to the paid-for version as it seems to work so well.

These ads do seem to bounce around, but I find you get rid of them - and back to the the full screen - if I click on the FORUM link at the top of the page, next to 'What's New?'.

Hopefully the Management will get rid of the annoying ads soon.

How much do you want to pay?

Not just me then... v irritting....

How much do you want to pay?

no need to pay for forums

never will be and I am not sure that there are any sailing forums you have to pay to see or post

very willing to be proved wrong of course

there are plenty of forums

I come here because of the people who are here

not because of YBW

if YBW pull the plug (of course they won't)

of if people drift off elsewhere then I will follow them

just like riding the tide

Sailnet used to be massive - then the people who ran it got a bit greedy and it is fading

Sailing anarchy is big - but has peaked

OK. You said:

What do you suggest? Adverts that nobody sees?
