Actual/Prediction Tidal Data

If you are interested in this type of thing, this link to Felixstowe is quite interesting. I have known about a half metre difference at times.

Harwich Harbour Authority site gives similar tidal information, plus windspeed and direction at Landguard and Shotley. http://www.hha.co.uk/navigation.html Click the Live data tab to get the wind information.

A quick look at that may also give a clue whether they are likely to be "stacking" at Felixstowe. I think they stop crane use at >25kts, perhaps a bit more?

Interesting looking at the HHA site just now, there is a steadily increasing negative tidal surge, already -0.66m !
Presumably this is due to the gale force winds from the South holding back the flood tide.
The previous tide cycle followed the predicted curve exactly, but the rise after low water is very slow compared to expected.

Blimey!

The last weekend in Oct, the spit off Harwich (Blackman's head I think its called) was submerged.... never seen that before... must have been a HUGE tide and a big positive error against predictions!

It was a huge tide. We went out through the lock at Shotley on the Saturday, about 11:30 ish, the river was higher than the lock gates. We went in the lock, they closed the gates behind us. The water was pouring over the gate, from the river into the lock and from the gate behind us into the marina. Never seen that before, it was a bit eerie.

FYI - I knew I had this one saved somewhere. So posting here purely for curiosity sake - HHA tidal graph from November 2008...
