Hi All, hope you are well. I have a box labelled active antenna aax5 with connections for navtex, short wave and a possibly other things but it has never worked because the whip at the top of the mizzen mast is broken. I have the masts down and about to fit a new vhf antenna to the main mast. Question, could I use the old vhf antenna to provide a signal to the aax5 unit? Or does the aax5 antenna have some shortwave trickery in the base of its antenna?

Does anybody know if they work or not? Keen for a better signal to the music radio and do have a shortwave receiver and curious about wefax?

The unit seems to be for receive only for VHF FM radio and HF (short wave) reception. The actual antenna would be a whip or wire about 80 cms long as ideal for FM radio but as long as possible for short wave.
Try a piece of wire into the antenna socket and power it up. You may get decent short wave reception and FM radio. FM of course would be much better with a whip on mast top. The box I think will contain an amplifier tuned for the 2 ranges of reception. ol'will

Thanks for the people who looked, found an antenna on cactus marine and seems it is a special active antenna and the box in my cabin is a power supply and splitter, seems worth a try….. Anybody have one of these? And does it provide a clear signal to the audio radio and an ssb (for reception)? Ta.
