Hello

Considering updating my dashboard display and have been considering the Actisense analogue to digital converter for engine monitoring, revs and alarms. Was thinking of routing the displays through Garmin GMI 10's.

Has anyone managed to use an Actisense system and does it work ok? any comments gratefully received.

Regards
Roy

What engines? FWIW, I have chosen Maretron for this sort of hardware. They are generally regarded as market leader in this field. Have you compared Maretron and chosen Actisense over them? - If yes I'd be interested to hear why

I don't have any first hand experience of Actisense therefore, sorry

If the budget will stretch GMI20 is way better than GMI10 for this. Bigger screen, better graphics, networked night dimming, etc. Or consider also a big Garmin screen dedicated to engine info eg a Garmin 7012 or whatever will fit

Similarly I have not had experience or know of Maretron, looking for a straight forward method of converting analogue engine data to digital NMEA2000 from Cummins 5.9BT to display in an improved way over clunky VDO dials

Actually the penny has just dropped with me that you are converting analogue engine info to N2k, as opposed to converting engine digital data on j1939 to N2K, which is all I have ever done. Maretron do make an analogue converter, called EMS100, so it would be worth your while comparing specs. Maretron is top quality gear and is the brand of choice in many serious/super yacht installations.

The Actisense looks nice. Only thing to say is that (tacho apart) it must rely heavily on correct calibration when you first set it up, so allow yourself a day or so to commission the thing!

LF,

I started a thread not so long ago on the same topic, did a rudimentary review of the three options (which are actually two)
have a look here, and check the NoLand Engineering RS11 Canbus Engine Data Converter specs. Better than actisense imho, and bear in mind you need two of them for a twin engined boat. Plus the 100+ usb interface/programmer == not cheap!

cheers

PS. and on another note, wtf is going on with links???? Why normal html tags wont work??? Is it a "feature" of the new forum?

:D

haven't ordered yet the Noland! will do during the winter, not much point installing it now.

I've got a couple of GMI10s that will be on the f/b. I wont even install the original rev counters and 3 warning lights on the f/b at all and get all input from the garmins.
check the preset gmi10 screens, easy to setup quite a few things there..

cheers
