Just bought one of these guys to display my AD41's data on the fly plotter, however didn't realise it needs another £150 for the part to calibrate it!! Why can't these people put in a simple USB and serial converter , really boggles the mind.

I don't suppose any of you have a spare NGT-1 for sale?

Tempted to return it and buy a different brand with a simple Ethernet port for calibration!

Cheers

the reason I didn't finally buy from these guys...
Their argument being that this way they keep the cost of the actual component low but this assumes one pays an engineer (that already knows and owns the NGT-1) to install it for you (and depending on where your boat is based, you probably end up paying much more than the 150quid on labour)

good luck!

Yep makes sense. I bought it on the assumption it would have a much simpler interface! What did you use in the end?

Also only appears to be compatible with some VDO and Faria senders, despite the promise of additional and custom sender calibration from their Chief Engineer. The "Coming Soon" for custom calibration also appears to have been removed from their website. There has been no new firmware updates since Nov 2015.

As it hasn't been updated in nearly 3 years I personally wouldn't count on the situation changing anytime soon.

I used NoLand engineering RS11 or something like that.

well three years down the line, I'm building my own such black boxes using Arduinos...

cheers

Right so returning it is now on the cards! What does everyone else use? I have come across this bit of kit, seems promising apart from haven't heard of the company before..

Do you mean Alba or the seller E-Marine? If the later, I've bought from them before, no issue, both companies are based in Spain, so delivery timescales affected accordingly.

Other options are:

https://www.v3instruments.com/marine/controllers-modules/engine-gateway-monitor/

http://www.dmkyacht.com/specifications

Maretron and other vendors also have some point products, for temp, pressure, fuel etc.

There is also Noland, but I don't recommend them, some people have had issues, where voltage based output was being read, as the Noland was being affected by differing alternator outputs.
