Actisense DST modules with existing transducer?

Does anybody have experience of hooking one of these more modern NMEA transducer interfaces to an older Analogue transducer (of correct frequency!)
I have a Garmin 556 which can take NMEA inputs, so I was considering bringing in the Depth signal via one of the Actisense modules.
Any comments ?
