Acrylic Windscreen Haze Removing?

have to admit Farsco that second pic doesn't look that different from first, maybe a wrong pic selection posted and second is also a before pic?
third pic definitely looks good, so guess well done there!

I think it’s my photography skills!!

It’s better in reality :)

A mate of mine used to restore bike screens with a polisher and T-cut, worked perfectly every time. Maybe worth doing a test area.

Highly unlikely given T-Cut isn't a diminishing abrasive - you will always be left with a haze unless you use another product to polish it out.

Personally I use AutoSmart Evo 6 & 3 for polishing screens. There will be a point that the hazing is actually internal as the material breaks down in which case you have to replace the screen. In this case I've had them made at less than half the price (even using the same material) than buying a manufacturer replacement part.

I used to have a light aircraft.

I bought the wet sand and buff kit but never had the balls to use it !

I think it is the only way.

Make sure the screen is not coated as this could cause a real mess!

They are all coated at the factory and this is a UV protection layer which is sprayed onto the finished screen and can be bought in aerosol cans for small projects or in larger containers for application by spray guns used for paints and refinishing.

You can use T cut or wet and dry as they are all abrasives and my personal choice is Auto Glym paint reconditioner as it is finer than T Cut, but with any sanding you have to get finer and finer material until you have it smooth and 3000 grit seems to be fine as long as it is finished with a spray UV protective coating.

Just curious, but my 89 sunseeker (portofino 31) had all glass windscreen, but that was all flat panels. The early nineties version Portofino 32 had a curved screen which I had assumed was glass also....maybe they weren't.
So was wondering if your screen is original Eitherway, could you not just replace the acrylic panel if it has deteriorated bad enough or if the polishing up didn't come up well enough?

Defo original and I don’t think the curve ones where ever glass. I think last quote to replace from oe supplier was 10k!

There are companies that will do amazing things and no doubt reproduce but still talking £1000’s no doubt. The flat sections would be easy of course. I could no doubt get them made cheaply. Just those curved sections. No one is local to me either so postage for copy would be an issue. Couriers can’t even deliver a a gas fire without denting it in my experience. Curved 20+ yr plastic would have no chance :)

I’m happy enough with how they’ve come up....for now :)

Curved screens in polycarbonate are usually flat and bent upon installation. Acrylic is usually used on cheaper boats so if you do buy a replacement check what you have. Thickness on replacements is always very important - if you don't get it right and the product is slightly different then there's no guarantee you can bend the screen into place without it breaking.

Just had an email back from Sunseeker....£10k was a red herring...can’t recall where I heard that from but anyway, £600 plus delivery for a full new set. Pretty good that but just confirming they are pre curved etc...

Looks a tricky job to swop....still scared :)

Now you can try sanding after looking at the 3M grades. Not so much to lose :encouragement:
