Acrylic frame sealants.are they any good? For sealing non load bearing fittings, the bumf says they're waterproof, flexible and over~paintable.no real bonding properties. Got to be better than silicon(bloody 'orrible stuff!) and almost as cheap. Anybody tried it/got opinions on it? thanks

No use for anything on a boat. Even on house jobs the cheap versions can more or less dissolve if subject to prolonged water, the better brands are slightly better, but again, no use for boat fittings. Sikaflex or other cheaper polysulphides eg PU40 are good.

PU40 from Toolstation has now been renamed Puraflex 40. It is a polyurethane, seems to be just the same as Sikaflex 291 as far as I can tell. Performs just as well in UK and Med conditions. The hybrids, such as CT1, Sticks like s**t and various others have the advantage that they can be used on wet surfaces but they are less strong.

In my experience quite useless.
Polyurethane sealants appear to be better than silicone, taking considerably longer to set and having a higher tenacity.

Íf you need puraflex in quantity google it because you can get it for well under £3 a tube unlike the £3.80 ish you pay at tool station.
