Knew a model maker who carefully fitted his Perspex cases, tied them together, then put a drop or two of formaldahyde on one corner. Capilary action carried all round the joints and welded it together. No smears or blobs, perfect.

But not the thin latex ones.

The only rubber which isn't destroyed by acetone is butyl, as in the big black gauntlets.

Are you sure it was formaldehyde? I don't think it can do much to perspex. Probably more likely to have been chloroform.
