I guess it would be more appropriate to post this elsewhere, but since I'm aware that some moboers are/were also sailors, here goes.

Today, it it will be possible to follow live the launch which will take place in Cagliari (Sardinia), at this webpage.
Pretty close to where one of the most well known forum boats (Blue Angel) is moored, in fact.
Unfortunately, I can't be there to see in flesh the thing - which is likely to be quite impressive.
But the popcorn is ready for the live feed...! :encouragement:

As it happens, I’m in Sardinia at the moment on holiday (not in my boat :( however) and saw the launch is today, however will joe public be able to get near the launch, or will it be guests only? It’s about a 2 hour drive from where we are and I don’t really want a 4 hour drive to see very little!!

Short answer is I don't know, I'm afraid.
In principle, I'd expect the event to be open to public, but don't blame me if you'd be unable to see a lot after going there!
I would have gone if I were already around Cagliari, but also for me it takes about 2 hours to go there (with a ferry in between), so it's a bit too much hassle for a lazy git as myself.
But FYI, Cagliari is a very nice and lively town worth visiting, also regardless of Luna Rossa.
Whereabout in the endless island are you at the moment, if I may ask?

Thanks - we are in calasetta. Went to Cagliari on Monday, enjoyed the day there
Calasetta?! I can see it from my flybridge!
It's in fact one of the two places (the other is Portovesme) from where you can take a ferry to Carloforte, which is my home port.
If by chance you are planning to come to CF, I'm always happy to have a good excuse for opening a bottle! :D

Unfortunately, I can't offer you to go also out by boat and show you some nice bay, because while the mistral which is now blowing should calm down by tomorrow night, I will spend Friday and the weekend in the inner part of Sardinia, together with some friends.
And by Monday, Mistral is predicted to start blowing again... :ambivalence:
Have a nice stay, anyhow!

PS: you were very prudent with your estimate of a 2 hours drive to CA.
I use to consider the same timing if not a tad less, including the 40' ferry crossing!

Ah! Was in Carloforte yesterday! Actually thought it a far prettier place than calasetta. Maybe walked past your boat yesterday as I usually stroll the marinas as allowed. You moored to the quay, or on a pontoon berth?

Main quay. If you strolled along it, you might have noticed the big Azimut right in the center, which is at the moment the largest boat in the marina.
My boat is on her stbd side. If you should come back, drop me a pm!

FYI, we are onboard "that well known forum boat" on sun, mon and tuesday,
we intended to sail out but forecast doesn't look very well..
so in case you fancy coming onboard a old 23m yacht, or just want to say hello, don't hesitate to drop by,
boat is in Portus Karalis, right across the boulevard in Cagliari.

Sooo... Time to update this thread with a screenshot of the beast, taken from the launch video.
She does look impressive, as I guessed.
But the numbers given by the presenter at the launch are even more amazing:
depending on wind strength and direction, they expect that she should be capable to reach up to 50kts or so.
Mind blowing, or what?!?

Wow, the foils are the keel also? Impressive. 5m draft though, lets hope they don't hit anything like Alex Thompson did in the last Vendee. Looking forward to seeing that running, just two metres longer than Hugo Boss. Any idea when they start trials? :encouragement:

Thanks both, that’s a kind invitation! Looks like I have missed out on both as not planning to be back in Cagliari or Carloforte. :(
