Hi all,
Have a bit of diesel to mop up, not too much, less than half a litre or so. Heard that huggies (babies disposable nappies) were great.

Never tried it myself but willing to try,any one else used them.
Thought they would be better than kitchen roll.

I always get a pack when I change filters or oil, cheaper than the alternatives & easy to dispose of.

Maybe should be part of the standard kit on boat ?

Follow up report:

The local supermarket only had those bumper 48 packs of huggies, slight over kill for our needs, however found a pack of "Super absorbent under pads" 10 in a pack only cost £3.50 equivalent per pack over here in Turkey (each one 60cm x 90cm)

Blummin brilliant things, one was enough to get all the diesel up, then did some work on the log impellor up at the front end, and another pad soaked up everything there too.

What would have been half an hours work with paper kitchen towels, sponges etc turnerd out to be just five minutes work.

As we do not have children yet these "Under Pads" were new to us. Would now recommend them to all boat owners.

Fuel in the bilge is not nice as it makes the boat smell horrible. I have used an aqua vac then hot water with perfumed liquid soap. This works however, it has only been done (by me) from a pontoon.

So, my question is, once the disposable napkin has removed the fuel etc, how do you dispose of the residual smell?

Others have advised using 'Toilet Duck', seems to work

I use absorbant pigs, absorb oil/fuel not water and are very efficient, use tham at work so much cheaper than the marine equlivant.

Only problem I had was when sucking one with the bilge pump which had enough force to burst the thing and form lots of little bits!!
