Absolute 40

[ QUOTE ]
The Plotter can be replaced with 80 cm one or for £1200 you can have an upgraded dash (supplied by us ) that takes a 120.

Ah, much better thanks. Surely no-one spending 1/4mill on a boat would want a tiny tomtom plotter. I better everyone orders the £1200 E120 job !

I looked at the Absolutes at Southampton this year, and seriously I liked em.........or was it 'It', I cant remember?

Very nice indeed, but I do share the sentiments of others why such a huge waste of space with the garage shoved so far forward and mahoooosive bathing platform??? It must be hell to get the dinghy winched all that way back, or am I missing something? Otherwise cracking design, looks fab.

Jas.

If you can get NBS to provide space for four boats then yes ! pigs and flying etc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif having said that why bother when we get seven at Dusseldorf for the same money and most really keen clients will come to DD anyway so guess answer is nope afraid. Don't think we are the only ones either, I think this LIBS is going to be a tough one for most and if you can survive without going best save the £100k for something more worthwhile which is what many are thinking right at this moment, tis not a great show for us anyway, never was.

It's quite a model line up though for a builder that started 5 yrs ago. Mostly very nice stuff. You gotta hand it to those Abs boys.

officially it started in 2002 so would make it 6, but the management and some of the workers come from the Gobbi experience which was founded if I am correct in 1968, and now transformed in Atlantis by Azimut

all models branded Atlantis 315 SC, 345 SC, 425 SC, 47 and 42 where all produced by the people at Absolute now, and these all have been strong models for Atlantis with great selling and excellent performances and comfort

Also the fordeck sun cushions are plonked on the deck not recessed. I think they will get ripped off if you take green water over the bow (which can easily happen in med in 40footer).

I always thought the Abs 39 ran extremely bow-up, so this may not be a problem with this model /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If your referring to the comment made by a chap in MBY after a sea trial, it would have helped if the broker had made sure the customers boat had the bilge pumps on before putting her in the water and sea trialling it.

He rang us after wanting to know why the trim tabs were not doing anything and the boat was all sky high, after tens mins conversation said look in engine room for anything untoward, oh dear...ooops ...its full off rain water ! like up to the bottom of the engines. To late for his client he had already gone home a bit disappointed.

The 39 with the biggest engine option (D6's) does ride a bit bow up under 21 knts because of the weight of the engines. Now of course with D4 300's available no need for D6's , all tickety boo .

You can see from our demo fitted with big D6 lumps how she sits in the water, mind you she does fly and accelerates like stink :-) , with D4's the back end is about 3" higher out of the water.

I prefare it this way has more an agressive look to it, and with all the bad comments on D4 I prefare D6 and like also to choose the bigger engine option
altough in the brochure, site pictures and the ones posted by Nautical the new 40 does look more stuck to the water, may be the effect of the weight of the hard top....

Surely the bilge pumps are wired directly to the battery? How can you get a couple of feet of rainwater in the bilges anyway? Do they build them with holes in the deck? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Unbelievable that said broker didn't open the engine hatch to carry out v basic engine checks prior to sea trial. I hope he didn't get the sale

Absolutely Mike, complete shambles of sea trial if you ask me, still nowt to do with us (although we would like to have exclusive rights to all second hand ABS :-) ) No he didn't get the sale and the client came back direct to us.

Just goes to show even so called professionals take chances, tis unfathomable to me that a boat lays on the hard for several months and someone just plonks it in, turns keys and whizzs off, crazy !.

The pumps are on a master trip in engine room, normally they are always on even if you switch off everything on the supply board. To switch the pumps off you have to open up the main distribution board in the engine room and switch off from there. Dunno why anyone would have done that as it makes no sense. No they don't make them with holes :-) but you do get alot of water in there if some numpty leaves the engine hatch open in the companion way for weeks :-(

if it was me I would not have bothered turning on the key, the first think I look at any boat is the engine room,
I was negotiating a 34 Zaffiro last Summer along with the 335 SC I eventually purchased, and one of the photos showed a dirty filled with water engine room, needless to say I stopped the deal....

OK, fair enough, I'll stop having a dig at Absolutes for a while /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Who's the broker? I think we should be told

I have to agree, the tender garage is such a waste of space both external and internal. There is more living space on many 32ft fb designs. Interior also a bit plastic looking for my taste, but then I'm a young fella pretending to be an auld buffer with a pipe and slippers! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Too much bling, not enough substance for my conservative taste, but seems a reasonable price for a fun boat.

that platform is nice from this angle
I think Abs will follow what Atlantis have done with the 42 Plus and 47 Plus versions, both now available in HT versions only

Well I hope they don't copy that, what a crap layout. Why bother having two seating areas almost exactly the same size and shape, you can only use one of them at a time? It also leaves no standing space in the cockpit. If you're stood up, you're in someone's way.

Worst cockpit layout i've ever seen on that size of boat.

Agree with that. Curved seating wastes so much space which is criminal on a boat where space is at a premium and on this particular boat gives v little forward facing seating as well which is useless for long distance cruising. Also you can't wedge yourself comfortably into a corner as you can with square seating
It should be law that boat designers spend 2 weeks cruising on every boat they design. Then there wouldn't be so many idiotic features on boats

Agreed, except that it would be much more effective if anyone should spend 2 wks cruising before being allowed to buy a boat, in the first place!?...
Producers/designers can't be blamed, as long as they have buyers.

to be honest the c-shaped settee opposite each other has a certain good function to it in harbour or at anchor, especially as we do in our boats it always ends up females on there own and males also alone, when we are 2 or 3 boats tied to each other
I also think to comment on Nicks valid points one has to see this layout and see its purpose, on the 47 it is on the same side and I think to remember seeing f a plan of the 42 the aft is more of half a c as more to fore you have the deck wet bar with grill, behind the helm station
I personally prefare the standard Atlantis layout with sunpad, as I said in my previous post although the tender garage is small, still it is bigger to the Targa 40
Atlantis produced this Plus version more for the American market then the med one

to be honest I have only seen the plans so far and after seeing the original pictures of the 42 Plus I kind like it more, still I would not change it for a garage
tender stowage being it my preferred bathing platform solution or a garage is very important at 35 feet plus...
