"A routine refuelling operation went horribly wrong for Roman Abramovich's £72 million yacht Pelorus in Malta last month, when a member of the 40-strong crew accidentally put the wrong fuel into the tank.

The 38-year-old Russian billionaire, the owner of Chelsea FC, was said to have been "disappointed" to have to rearrange his family holiday on the 377ft vessel, which underwent a lengthy de-fuelling and engine cleaning process estimated to have cost at least £1 million."

A million pound to pump out the fuel ,flush out the system and replace the filters etc?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Still he has plenty of dosh to spare bless him....

Says in the Times today that the problem was water contaminated diesel - it was detected by the ships own water detection system but by then it was too late and the whole fuel system needed to be drained

Why built the thing, who classed it and what flag does it fly?

This is a very odd story.

Does a ship costing that much and of those dimensions not have purifiers in her engine room, between the main tanks and the daily service tank?

This would not have been a problem for the average coaster.
