Avril is doing her Yacht Master Theory Course and a question in her course book asks what is the height of tide at1330 SPDST. I presume it means Secondary Port Daylight Sailing Time. Is this correct, and if so, why would they use the term Daylight Sailing Time rather than British Summer Time? Yours in anticipation.

Yes it is Southern Peninsular Daylight Saving Time (Summer Time), which is Zone -0100. (like France)

The RYA have 'internationalised' the training charts and almanac, but note they have issued some corrections to the almanac which your instructor should be aware of:

Hamilton Sound pp 72 - 74 Add to time box: 'Subtract 1 hour for UT'

Colville pp 80-82 Add to time box: 'Subtract 1 hour for UT'

Port Fitzroy pp 89-91 Add to time box: 'Subtract 1 hour for UT'

Amendment to the portrayal of times in the following publications:

YM1 Course Information and Exercises (page 3)
Yachtmaster Exercises, Examination and Answer papers – Various pages.

Amendment - Any reference to UT-1 should be disregarded. It should be
replaced by Zone -0100.

Sorry to appear dim but is there any chance we could have that clarified? Southern Peninsular? Google doesn't know what or where that is and nor do I.

SP is a fictitious piece of geography, purely for training purposes.

Apparently the Antipodes and US might not like using the English Channel charts as a training area, though it temporarily b*****ed up anyone who teaches in the UK.

Am currently doing one of the courses; think the ficticious coast is a brainwave as it allows for every single situation, symbol, etc which would not appear in a real-life chart...well done them, it must have taken a load of work to organise. The local clock though is very confusing; as we know UK is utc or utc +1 in summer and Europe is utc+1 datum with utc+2 in the summer...all very clear. In comes the RYA and we all get confused with +1 and -1's.... life, I suppose, is always a challange!

Moved or not, they're definitely rugby posts on RYA Chart 3. The cartographer was an England fan - unless the names Stevenstown/Stevens Bay, Dallaglio Bay, Tindall Point etc are just a coincidence...?

The downside of the new charts is that you spenp 1/2 the course trying to find the locations refered to in the text!
