That thing looks lethal. I'm sure they've considered people landing on top of each other in the panic and keeping speed of decent under control, but it's not obvious they have from the vid. The first of those seems impossible to mitigate.

The tube is designed to keep the speed down. I can't remember how at the moment.
I think as you enter the raft it is designed so that you move forward and not just land under the tube. A bit like a children's play slide.

The slide has baffles in, so you zig zag down, keeping the speed to a minimum. A Straight slide, whilst no doubt fun, would be an extravaganza of broken ankles and hips.
