Aargghh - Why won't my boat hold on the anchor?

Re: Aargghh - Why won\'t my boat hold on the anchor?

You still seem to be playing it on the edge to me. Wheres the 5.2 metres from, sea level, or off set to keel depth. Did you recon on some for the hight of bows.

Why anchor in 5m, when 3m would be ok?

Anyway you seem to be getting there now, but any more depth and you need more chain.

Re: Aargghh - Why won\'t my boat hold on the anchor?

Your success with 5x scope (and the advice earlier for 6x) leads me to another thought.

If you anchor amongst other boats, not all will be using the same scope and some will lie to the tide and some to the wind. Having been woken in the middle of the night by a mobo banging on my hull, I was less than amused to find he had dropped his anchor about 2 boatlengths astern of me and then let out about 8x scope of rope.
Lunchtime anchoring while you are on board is fine but do consider wind and tide changes before tucking in for the night.

The zip ties wont last long (I tried it), so best to either paint the chain or buy some proper chain markers that fit inside the loop.

Re: Aargghh - Why won\'t my boat hold on the anchor?

Thanks again. The measurement was from the anchor chute, depth from transducer + height to chute which I measured before I set off (the beauty of dry berthing!)

The reason I was out at that depth was I wanted to find myself a quiet spot for fear of what AWOL mentioned. This I always take into account and try and anchor well clear of others.

Like I said, zip ties were just a temporary measure, Ive got the paint all ready, just need a few spare hours and some dry weather.
