I’ve been looking forward to a long weekend on the boat for weeks, what happens.. my youngest son manages to break his arm trying to stand on a Space hopper! (the story about trying to explain to the Latvian Doc in A & E what a Space hopper is for another day!) now, SWMBO says there is no way we can take him on the boat with a broken arm but...... has anybody done it, I know the answer really but don’t want to give in too easily!!

I can't see that any kind of motion is going to be comfortable with a broken arm, at least for a few days, or unless the forecast is to be very very flat.

ouch.

If hes old enough and daft enough to try to balance on a space hopper then show him how the microwave works, leave him some food in the fridge and go enjoy yourself!

Sorry, never was very good with kids! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I took my 7 year old ski-ing with a broken finger (one A&E doc said yes....one didn't so I figured I could pick which advice i listened too) we kept it strapped up and gloved and he had a great time.

If your boy's arm is in plaster and a sling and you're not out for any daring do would it be a huge problem?

and chopping the lad's arm off, just so that his dad can have a weekend sailing is a bit extreme, to say the very least

and don't forget the eye!

You can take him but what happens if he slips and breaks the plaster. One can imagine the interview with social services at the hospital while they re-plaster the offending arm.

Alertnatively have a fibreglass cast made and it won't be affected by the spray!

Cheers

Being bad parents several years ago took our son, about 8 at the time, off for a weeks trip on the boat with an arm in a sling (trapped his hand in barrier - long story) - it wasn't broken but very swollen and tender. He absolutely loved the attention - being hosted up quaysides in the bosun's chair and being made a fuss of getting into water taxi's.

He managed to hang on OK with one arm....

Just do it. Theres no arm in it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Sorry about that couldn,t resist!

However probably best to take Him along, keping Him occupied better than sat on arse moping.
Light Duties don,t ask Him to haul the anchor in, fair play get swmbo to do that.!

I broke my own arm a few days before a 3 week sailing holiday. SWMBO is an ex nurse and knew about fibreglass casts rather than the normal plaster that the hospital use. The A& E depts tend to reserve them for people who repeatedly break their plaster cast - usually because its load bearing.

A quick word of explanation and my arm was swiftly encased in a fibreglass cast which lasted the holiday successfully despite getting wet on occasions.

My first experience of sailing single handed. (Sorry couldn't resist that one!)

BTW it was torture to go sailing and not to be able to go in for a swim - so that should teach the little blighter not to stand on his space hoppper.

PS I am from Latvia... what is a space hopper?

I broke my leg badly and was in hospital for 3 weeks, got out in plaster 2 days b/4 activity holiday wind surfing/sailing lasers etc, couldnt wind surf (still cant!) put leg in bin liner and set off, capsised after 10 mins and because of bin liner being v buoyant in water, became a black fishing float, bit alarming, stayed in bar after that.
