divermaster has along with some others, let us see some brilliant pic of Scotland from the water, in the lounge, now off all the areas I would like to explore with a boat I think the west coast of Scotland must be top of my list, then Wales and then Ireland.

then the med,

what would your be?

Done quite a bit round most of them. The scenery round Scotland is fantastic, but your mostly remote and fending for yourself. East and South coast of Irleland is good, a safe harbour every 20 or so miles. Wales, humm, I'm back there, it's ok and nearer to home. But cant touch the West Country. CI's ok, just to say you've been there. France/Britany the same. The Solent, I'm always happy to get away from, it sort of looks ok, has two or three decent harbours, but theres something nasty about it. No one seems to have any manners, or maybe theres just to many of them.

Taking that as a compliment ...

Fjords of Western Norway (my cruising gounds pre 1990) is a must and high on the list of places one "must visit...

Ålesund, Geiranger, Hardangerfjord, Stord, Lysefjord with Ryfylke etc., are "must be experienced by boat" areas... (Planning next years joureys now....)

Of course Southern Norway is not without its attractions.... as there is more of the same there.... protected fjords and islands galore...

Croatia, Monte Negro is also up there...

As is Orkneys, Hebredies and NW Scotland of course.... Ireland looks interestig as well..

Been to the W coast of Scotland a number of times and it knocks the rest of the UK for six. One of the main attractions being that marinas are few and far between.
Done the SW coast of Ireland - OK - similar to Scotland but not as dramatic nor remote feeling.
West Country - lovely

As others above have mentioned, my 1st choice would be Scandinavia starting from N.Norway and then going via Denmark, Swedish W coast and up the E coast. A lovely way to spend atleast 2 Summers.

Don't bother with Wales, especially not in preference to SW Ireland.

Thats two mentions of the Norwegian Blue in two days!

I see no one caught my previous....

Julie, don't listen to whisper.

Oh! bye the way Powerskip.
We talk a funny speak.
Snow on the hills most the time.
Got a Fjiord type place called 'The Straits' and other funny Customs /Gatherings.
Eisteddfods and Stuff.
Tiss almost a Foreign Land on Your doorstep.
Worth a visit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Always wanted to 'do' the Caledonian Canal - On the basis I am unlikely to have my own boat there, I think we will probably hire a boat next year - That does look a great trip, and then followed by the Canal de Midi in France......

Love all the suggestions but I think I would love to get close to the Antarctic and Arctic circles, but would feel bad if I did it on a power boat!

"Julie don't listen to Whisper" ........... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Think he's being a little (lot) biased here Jules, or hasn't been to SW Ireland.
And as to the Straits being like a fjord - he doesn't have much of a grasp of geography either /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, and I'm not anti Wales , I was born there /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
