...by Peter Nichols.

This rates as one of the best books I have ever read. Never mind being raggie stuff, it literally is a gripping read and I couldn't put the book down until the early hours of the morning.

Sailing single-handed around the world in '60's was a lot different than it is today.

I'll say no more...just go get a copy and you won't be dissappointed.

Agreed. Read it straight after Pete Goss's book and I thought that was good at the time. On the fiction side, try the Bernard Cornwells boaty stories - they're quite hairy too.

He's written a couple of good books - if you don't mind the raggie stuff! "Sea Change" is the story of how he lost his wooden boat on a single-handed Atlantic crossing. The way he conveys his state of mind during the days of desperate pumping leading up to his rescue is particularly skillful IMHO.
