A video from our Mediteranian outing

I loved the Valetta footage. It's on the bucket list of 10 harbours to sail into and I was lucky enough to do it on a RIB a few years ago on a business trip. I forget the full bucket list but I think it is generally thought of as Sydney, Valetta, Monaco, Bonifacio, Dartmouth, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Mahon, and couple of others (Gosport?)
Not wishing to pick up a patriotic fight, but with respect for Dartmouth and Gosport (that I must admit to have only seen from the land), no Venice?!?
Without thinking about it a lot, Rio de Janeiro is another place bound to be included in such list.
Interesting topic, anyway. We could as well arrange a specific thread with a sort of poll to build up a forum top ten... :encouragement:

Yep to those! Actually I tried to google the list (for only 30 seconds) and found nothing, because of course "bucket list" as a search term throws up millions of answers. Perhaps the list only exists in bar room talk, though I've heard it many times. I can't remember the full list or suggestions for the full list, and yep Venice is probably on there. Valetta is always on everyone's version of the list, for sure.

When the nights draw in for us northern hemisphere-ers (even more) and we are in depths of winter let's make a post on this topic!

I apologise for not indicating it but Gosport was a joke :D. It's Henri's home port. Convenient by road for Londoners but not pretty :D

HOW VERY DARE YOU !

:)

Being a Gosportian now with a place overlooking Portsmouth Harbour I will say the views are excellent with a steady stream of craft to amuse.

In answer to your previous post:

As mentioned I use a slider. There is one section in Mykanos where it wobbles bit. I could remove it but spotted it too late. And I'm lazy :)

My slider isn't a very good one, I think I'm going to invest in something better.

You pretty much summed up my technique, all I'm doing is taking photos using video. When I started filming using my DSL it all fell into place. I felt more like a film maker and was forced to set shots up rather than just wave a camcorder around.

Editing is still the hardest part.

Henry :)

Nice video, you could have given a call in Valletta (especially since it was over-night) we could have meet for a beer or two.

I never thought!

We did a great Segway tour and they threw in the Malta 5D experience beforehand.

I knew nothing abut Valletta prior to arriving but having sent a brief time there I can see why it the 2018 city of culture. I suspect and hope it will help establish the city to a wider audience.

I wouldn't put Monaco or Mahon on that list but certainly Dartmouth is up there and so is Bonifacio. Maybe its because I was born in London but for me the most spectacular harbour to sail into, at least under your own steam, is London. Motoring under Tower Bridge and on up past Westminster with centuries of history on either side is just magic. But then as I say, I'm probably biased!

Re: the celebrations in Mykanos.

They were very passionate about the reasons for the parade particularly when you spoke to older members of the community.

Sydney harbour is top of my list. Bit of a trek on Rafiki, so need to find a friendly local with a boat.
Agreed. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's worth the trip in itself, but definitely you can't miss it, if you go there.
During my winter down under in 2012/13, I had the privilege of cruising the bay three times.
Once with the boat of my very friendly home exchange neighbors, once from the command bridge of a local ferry (courtesy of a captain who happened to be an AndieMac friend - many thanks again C!), and last but not least onboard a former America's Cup sailboat.
If you wouldn't find a local boat mate, this would be my personal suggestion.
MUCH better than the wow-oriented jetboats, one of which you can also see in the video below.
With apologies to henryf for the o/t, but goes to prove how much better his video is compared to this humble clip collection.... :)

Great, I'm in.

Btw, I must admit that Gosport puzzled me a bit, but I didn't get the joke and feared to offend someone... Phew! :D

I had seen this footage before a couple of years ago, but forgot how good it was. A nice combination of still shots and video showing the action on the Harbour :encouragement:

We've got some very talented folks with cameras on this forum!

They say also Dubrovnik is very nice but I have not seen it yet.

Yep, the town as such surely is. Imho, the second city worth seeing in the whole Adriatic, after the obvious one.
Which is enough said, from someone like me who love also Trieste and consider it beautiful.

Otoh, the harbor itself is small, and also the approach to it is nothing to write home about, so it can't find a place in the top ten harbors to sail into.
Well, not in my personal one, anyway. :)
