A very special Notice to Mariners for all Bradwell/Maldon based peeps

Followed 2 massive lorries from Maylandsea to Steeple yesterday (Wednesday) lunchtime. They each had on a windmill blade. Couldn't see much detail as I was at the back of a very long queue! Just pleased that I wasn't going all the way to Bradwell!

From Gravesend Sailing Club we can look up and across the river at Tilbury Docks. On Monday, no windmill, Tuesday -oh look, tall white thing, higher than anything else. Wednesday, 10am, crikey the blades are up. Two more in the offing. Soon there will be very few places where these things are not visible somewhere.

Are these the Bradwell ones, or some others?

I admit, I quite like them! I now live in Maldon, so I expect that statement will be tested soon!

When we drove through Denmark about 10 years ago, we saw them everywhere. About every farm had a few. We could count 100 or more from any view point - many single ones and a few wind farms, and a few offshore ones, but more of those are springing up recently. The UK is a long way behind most of Northern Europe. There will be a lot more of these things - get used it them!

As others have said, I don't think this should be debated here, though it may well be the most civilised debate on the subject yet, but at least I can look away from one building, which would reliably produce as much energy as its given rating. Can't help thinking the mooring fees at Bradwell are going to get cheaper, a forest of future rusty towers isn't my idea of a good view. But I know nothing

Oh, yes. I think there are going to be two Wind Farms 'near' Bradwell down the Dengie and there was discussion of plans for a third being rejected by the local council but the developers have appealed to the Secretary of State. One guess how that will go.

I sailed solo in the cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of whitish wind turbine;
Beside the coast, away from trees,
Standing static in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Holding their heads no sign of dance.

The waves beside them danced, but why
They stand so still not making power;
The sailor sees the sea scape die,
This technology is just dour!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the change to us has brought?

For oft, when in my bunk I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with sadness pines,
And frets about the wind turbines

With apologies to Mr Wordsworth.
