Got up to the boat today for our first trip out of the new Marina, as yesterday was youngest son's 11th birthday and he wanted to try karting for the first time.
I was amazed how good he was, halving his average lap time from his first session to his second and coming first amongst his little buddies. A real proud Dad moment for me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So yesterday was his day and today was mine back on the beloved boat. We decided to head to Henley for lunch. So as we arrived, at our new to us, local lock Hurley. We were the only boat waiting, just as the gates were closing the fire and rescue launch turned up, causing great excitement from youngest son, who was delighted that the lockie re-opened the gates to let them in. He was furious that Dad forgot to take a pic however.
On route to Henley we passed one of my favorite houses, anyone know the history of this place?
Once through Hurley it was time for Lukey now wanting to drive anything with a wheel to have a go.
Have to say his navigation skills are better than his mothers.

[/image] /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif he actually keeps the fidgety Birchwood straight and is not known to panic when another boat comes downstream lol.
The weather was perfect, nice and warm and the river looked glorious. Pretty quiet as it was lunch time and it seemed everyone had moored up for a spot of lunch. Due to our late arrival at the boat ours would be a late lunch.
A short wait at Hambledon Lock was another chance for a picture

Through into Henley and the fuel gauge looked a little low so we headed for Hobs & sons and marveled at how they ever sell any diesel when it is always so hard to get onto the fuel pontoon. However as friendly as could be and after a short wait we headed back downstream to stop off for lunch in our favorite spot.
The nice guy with the spy camera saw us arrive and turned up in his boat for his lunch time fee rate of £3.50 (cheaper than a 3 hour stay in our local shopping centre car park at least.
After a very pleasant lunch thanks to SWMBO, we headed back to Temple and despite doing 5mph were overtaken at speed by 2 private and 1 hire boat who seemed to think they were on the M25. All caused enough wash to move Tristan towards the bank and I think I saw the largest bow wave on a downstream boat I have ever seen. I was delighted to see they were all still waiting at Hurley lock when we arrived probably 15 mins after they passed us

Days like today always make me realise why I love boating,

You can not beat the peace and the views. It was brilliant to be able to pop off to Henley for lunch, we are loving our new Marina and glad we made the move. After 4 years it was time for new views at the weekend.
