I am shortly to undertake my final voyage on my Squadron 'Drumbeat'. I shall be spending a little over a week taking her to the Hamble and stopping in at many harbours/marinas along the way. my new boat is shortly to be put on a slow boat from Taiwan and will arrive about the first week in November. It will be at Emsworth but will be there for some time having a number of jobs done. So it will probably be December before I can bring the new boat home.... otherwise I would be doing a fast trip there and a slow trip back! I plan to bring the new boat back equally as slowly in December.

Naturally the trip is weather dependent but the aim is to call in at as many places as we can .... if any ’forumites’ would like to have a drink aboard should we visit their harbour, they are more than welcome. It’s a Squadron 59 called Drumbeat … so its easy to spot.

Our first port is Padstow then around the corner to Falmouth … after that I have prepared a passage plan to almost every harbour along the way …. My question is:-

Which places are the best to visit on this last week of October trip lasting 8/9 days?

We set of on the 22nd October and have to be in Hamble by the 30th October.

So if you were making this trip at this time of year … which places you put on the list?

Dartmouth as tcm says, Salcombe is an excellent place, I particularly like Noss Mayo and Weymouth is a lively place to stop particularly after a slog across Lyme Bay

How about Poole? Quite a few of us around there. Poole Quay Yacht Haven quite a good marina, I'll even make a trip down to meet you, if you're there on a Wednesday, Friday or weekend.

Mind you I know of at least two other vessels with the name Drumbeat in the area. One is B.E.A. ootiful varnished yacht.

I have been to Padstow many times.

I wait in the pool outside for the gate to open then into the harbour - once through the gate to the left then against the wall. I would be ahppy to do it in a 74 footer.

Last time I was the second boat out in a raft of 5 - I wanted to leave so I simply had the ropes arranged then shunted all the outer 3 boats out with my two thrusters then backed out. Mind you I had to turn with inches to spare but thrusters make it easy.

Big fishing boats, much bigger than my boat come into Padstow no problem.

I can never trust you after I saw your boat digest a dolphin through its bow thruster on the way back from Watchet once ..... do not try and deny it, we all saw it! A nice black dolphin one side of the boat and seconds later something resembling tuna chunks the other side :-)

We are planning a run out from Chichester in Whitelighter down to Weymouth that week, then back up through Poole. I will keep an eye out for you.

I guess since your new boat is coming all that way to Emsworth you have bought a Trader? Which model? I think they are fantastic boats and would love one in the future.

Now I know Ur telling porkpies Paul because? When I cleaned the thruster tube out, the hump of the hump back Whale /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif was still in there and no Dolphin remnants at all,
If you are not careful I will tell everyone about your Swan fetish /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep its a Trader 575 - in fact the most highest spec one they have ever built.
Have gone for the flag blue hull that makes it a unique 575, so its at least distinctive. I also have legs on her so she can dry out. Twin 700hp cats she can do 25 knots and has stabilisers etc.

I have spent months doing the spec on this boat that has some really cool features. Trader also allow a great deal of bespoke design. They have been an excellent company to work with.

Drumbeat my Squadron 59 weighs in at just under 25 tons - the new boat, which is really only a few inches shorter weighs in at about 32 tons.

Its only weeks away now - been in build since January!

I will be bringing her to Poole in December as I am having some equipment fitted there - she will be there for about 10 to 14 days or so.

Drumbeat has been a really good boat for me. In fact I prefer her to the new Squadron 58 (although the flybridhe on the new 58 is a bit special) I will be sad to see her go. so I want to really enjoy this last trip with her.
