I sailed there from Singapore in 1962! I reckon that both places have changed significantly since then, neither for the better as far as I can tell.
General Gordon (he of Khartoum) once visited Mahe and wrote to Queen Victoria that he thought that he had found the Garden of Eden. He was hastily ordered home!

I did a trip there in 2004 alas not on a yacht
But we stayed on 4 islands
La cerf,Praslin,La Digue and Mahe
All are very beautiful and exclusive although quite expensive.
as you probably know there granite outcrops a long way from anywhere except each other
There arnt many tourists there unlike say the carribean where your cheek to jowl in comparrison
The oceanic wildlife is superb big sharks ,manta rays etc all due to the fact that theres so much deep water surrounding the islands
we were snorkling off la digue and came across 30 odd humphead Parrot fish 4 ft plus long tucking away at the coral
Another day I got a bit spooked by the biggest shark Ive ever seen looked like a oceanic white tip hunting in 20 ft of water
The fishing is fantastic lots big game ( to eat he adds quickly)
Cerf island is just off the capital and is a very quite place superb beachs and coral
Praslin is a bigger island where the famous coco de mer comes from very pretty Lush rainforests etc
La digue is the place with the famous granite boulders right up to the beach I think this place was voted the most beautiful island in the world I read somewhere
AND it is STUNNING
The only thing I found not quite so good was the food if you like lots fish its not to bad but otherwise found it fairly bland
Ah but after that trip we came home and I bought my 1st boat
the rest is history................
But wow have a fantastic time
Regards

Went maybe 10 year ago in Sunsail's first year of operation out there. At that time it wasn't set up very well for yacht charter. Difficult to provision, difficult to land in a dinghy either reefs in the way or too much surf. When you did manage to land the restaurants wanted smart dress - not really compatible with dragging your dinghy through the surf. Once we came back from a meal and the tide had gone out by about a 100 yards which meant my wife, me and our 12 year old daughter had to drag the very heavy solid dinghy across the beach for a long time before making it back into the crashing surf.

Three days holed up in La digue because of continuous torrential rain. 90 degree heat, 90 % humidity. The best day of the two weeks was hiring an air conditioned car and driving around the island.

Beautiful place. We haven't been back.

was there a 2 years ago,

stayed mahe visited praslin and la dique. really challenging swell between mahe and praslin Rained a lot. landward hotel great our suite was out of this world. No animals just lots of big red and black spiders that spin webs between just about every tree. Rained a lot. Heard last year that there was a big increase in theft from boats(mahe), so I would suggest caution if eating ashore.

was ok but wouldnt go back
