A photo of Olewil's boat at race start yesterday. Thats olewill down the back with no 2 son up on the gunwhale. The photo was taken from the start boat.
Uncharacteristically the weather was not brilliant 20degrees max and wind gusting 25knots. Yes that is no 3 jib (tiny)
Note crew wearing bouyancy vests.
Apologies for the rope dragging in the water and the brown stain above the water line. No didn't win 2nd home out of 4 in the division.

Nice photo! Looks like you got a good start. First over the line?

Dunno about it cheering up folk in the UK on a frosty Monday morning when you tell them that the temp was only 20 deg max - that is a heatwave in England!

Second out of 4 is still good going, especially as it looks like there are only 2 of you on board - could probably have done with some extra ballast.... (?)

Yeah, yeah,.

We get loads of antipodeans staying with us telling how wonderful the weather is, but now we see the truth of the matter. That's a duvet jacket, not a bouyancy device

Just the same as here.

Still, looks like having fun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't be rude. Olewill's one of the most helpful subscribers to the forum;- deserves a bit of respect.

Thanks all for the kind comments. Yes the main halyard had slipped when the cunningham was hauled on. Later we gave up on the cunningham and simply hauled up on the halyard. for a much better shape. Yes I think the backstay was on pretty hard to give some mast bend. (back at the top)Yes we had 4 on board one cringing inside, one was cranking on the jib at the time of photo. We had just done a wild turn to harden up onto the wind.
No it was an atrocious start about 30 seconds late and at that time 2 boats had already got away. including the one that beat us.
funny I seem to be jinxed this season 4 starts 4 second place over the line by 3 different boats. Maybe next week. luv from olewill

High Phil (it must be lunch time for you) actually that little jib is so small you can pull it in pretty tight without using the handle but if you get the wind in it a handle can help. I actually decided after that effort that I need something a little bigger. We started the sail down to the line with no 2 but it seemed a bit scary so went for no 3, just a tad too small.
Anyway did you part with your motor boat? Does that mean you are going to try for a rag boat again? I realise winds aree a bit unreliable on Windermere. olewill
