... of mine hopes to find somewhere cheap on the Southern East Coast (Ramsgate to Woodbridge) to put a 10-metre yacht ashore for a season. Where's cheap (but secure) and where should be avoided?

Suspect that the best course of action is to check out some of the sites advertised in PBO/YM, but Titchmarsh @ Walton, Shotley Point Marina, have gated Security. If he has a trailer and he is looking for undercover storage, drop me a line. TW

Also try Felixstowe Ferry Boatyard at the mouth of the R Deben or The Granary Yacht Harbour above Woodbridge. Both should be able to accomodate you.

Suttons Yard, Great Wakering - need a big tide in and out. not secure though
Shuttleworths at Paglesham, good yard, out of the way.
Iron Wharf Faversham. Good yard, helpful
By land transport, a lot of the smaller yacht clubs like Thorpe Bay

Lots of choice, depends if it can go by road or not....
