Dave Littlewood passed away on New Years Day, Dave was a long standing member of Hurlingham Yacht Club, and served on the Commitee for a numer of years, his last office was that of Honourary Treasurer, a duty he carried out for some years.

Unfortunatley I only learnt of this in the last week, hence this late posting.

Moreover I thing it is also a bad thing for boating when a club apparently chooses to ignore the passing of a long standing member.

Dave's passing.

As a member of the Hurlingham Yacht Club, I feel I should point out that Dave's passing after a very long illness, was mentioned at committee and the appropriate condolences were sent to the family ( I am told ). Dave has been ill for many years, and as a member of some standing, 12 years, I feel I should point out that I did not know him, but join others in sending my condolences to family and friends.
The club does not have a presence on this forum, so unfortunately it would not have been posted here.

Thank you for passing on this very sad news to the wider boating community and what a shame the club does not appear to have done likewise. My condolances to his family and friends.
Thank you for your very kind thoughts and words, I will endeavour to convey these to the family and friends

Notwithstanding that you (apparently) joined this Forum to pass on your sad news; why not "stay" and contribute to the discussions.

Although the majority of matters relate to the drained-ditchy-bit, nonetheless there are tendrils beginning to spread (e.g. to the Mudway and further up north).

It's always great to hear other's experiences even if some of the residents cannot share in that situation.

I have a dream that one day there might be contributions on a regular basis from the sailing clubs on the river. In my youth I had a passing acquaintance with Ranelagh and Minima, and they were happy times. Even so I wasn't aware of Hurlingham until recently (OK it's a mobo club - but still "boats").

So do join in the banter - ignore the contentious posts - there's a lot here.

The Hurlingham is a Yacht club, moved to this site in 1922 and still a secret, both mobo and sail, many members have both, we have a sail boat on the pontoon, and sailing dinghies in the yard. Plus many facilities in Putney, the one of most interest is probably the dry dock, in the region of 50' long. Temporary membership is needed, insurance condition, to use it but only £10 I think plus the dock at very reasonable rates. Open on Thursday nights from 8pm, every one is welcome as a guest. Regulars would be expected to join, £105 pa. P M me with e-mail or tel number for more details.
It appears we have invites to join in with Little ships convoy, I do not know how or what yet.

It appears there are two possible things that could have happened, (a) the sympathy cards got lost in the post, the representatives from the club could not find Mortlake to attend, the florist did not deliver the flowers or wreath.

(b) The Club did not care.

Its hard to decide, isnt it

I think you are right, joining this forum just to complain about something that upsets you, is not what the forum is for. Then no response when complaint answered. As a matter of fact
an old member of the club attended the funeral as our representative. Which is the same as any other member gets.

We're all human.

It's a sad story, but I don't think there are any villains here, just a slight difference of opinion.

I think it was fair to mention the sad loss of one of our brethren, and perhaps to discuss the resultant aftermath.

Hows about we let the old boy rest in peace now? :)

I trust there will be more frivolity when my own epitaph is revealed? :(
