as part of my regular contribution to Richard Shead's retirement fund, I bought a copy of Nov PBO yesterday.

I may be entirely wrong but in the articule on Testing Knots and Splices, p79, the RT and 2HH looks a bit different from the one I was taught as a Cub.

Come to look at it, the Clove Hitch doesn't seem too settled, either.

Regardless of whether they tied the right knots (and their choice of knots seemed rather strange) it did reinforce the old rule of thumb that a knot will weaken a rope by up to half and a decent hard eye splice is a lot better...

Mind you, I would have liked to know which chain/rope splice they tested - I bet it wasn't the one shown a month or two before where only one strand went through the chain!
