Seen a boat I like the look of and just doing some sums... could someone let me know the rough costs of retro fitting lazy jacks / stak pak and an elelctric windlass on a 33 footer?
Being the type who starts a bit of DIY then usually has to get a real man in to sort out the mess, it would have to be a pro' job!

Many thanks

Mark

No idea about the windlass or stack pack, but the lazy jacks can be cobbled together with a few metres of 6mm and a couple of light blocks - £20 maybe. You can even do without the blocks andj ust eye-splice in a couple of plastic thimbles. A tailor made, off the shelf Barton kit is hugely more expensive.

New windlass cost is only tip of the iceberg. You will almost certainly need to replace the cable as well, as you need calibrated chain to make the thing work properly - and it has to be calibrated to that make of windlass.

If you make your lazyjacks with blocks at the speaders and made off at the foot of the mast, you can slacken everything off so it'll fit under your existing sail cover.

This has quite a few advantages:

If you slacken off the lazyjacks before raising the sail, the battens won't get caught in them as it goes up.

The cost - I plan to do this on my boat this year, and expect it to cost around the illustrious Mr Jermain's estimate.

The cover goes over the sail, with no zip to let rain in, and the bottom of the sail cover is open(ish) to allow better ventilation of the sail when it's put away.
